Interview of the week - Andina Freight - Peru

Renatto has been part of Andina Freight since 2002.

He holds a Bachelor's degree in Economics and a Master's degree in Business Administration.

He also has a Master's degree and is a PhD student in Sociology.

Tell us about Andina Freight. Who owns the company?

Andina Freight was established in 2000 as a freight forwarder. After some years we incorporated our project cargo division and after that the division of renewable energy. We are present in 5 countries with our own offices. 

Where are your offices located?

Our headquarters are located in Peru. We also have offices in Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Panama.

General cargo, project cargo and renewable energy .

Tell us about projects that you have handled recently.

• Project cargo: Bi Party Stator – Matucana
  International full project logistics service in cooperation with THLG member FOX Brasil, including sea special freight, customs formalities in advance with directly unloading and delivery with special equipment to the hydroelectric site of 2 stators. 

We have handled some renewable projects, which I list below: 

• Peru: BESS CT Ventanilla project 
  Our scope was the international maritime logistics of cabins and transformers, delivery and assembly with crane, connection and electromechanical work of all CU stations, transformers until commissioning
   
• Colombia: El paso Solar Plant 86,2 MW
  Our scope was the international maritime logistics of inverters, cabins and transformers, customs in port of Cartagena, delivery and assembly with crane, connection and electromechanical work of all CU stations, transformers until commissioning, civil works and support in mounting of trackers. 
   
• Chile: Sol de Lila Solar Plant 166MW
  Our scope there is the installation and assembly of the structure in the Soltec’s SF7 solar trackers. 2,880 trackers will be installed.
   
• Mexico: Horus Solar Plant 99 MW
  Our scope was electromechanical assembly, specific civil works, connection and electromechanical work of all CU stations, transformers until commissioning, maintenance.

Are there any tricky points one should consider when planning a project cargo movement in the Peru? How would you describe the o/g permit issuance process in your country?

Yes, we must consider the route to be selected because sometimes, especially for the jungle part of Peru, we must carry out cargo transportation by land and river by barge.

Regarding the permit issuance process, the process is being improved and streamlined online.

What is your advantage against competition? Why do you stand out? 

Our advantage is the 3 divisions that we handle. In project management, times must be synchronised and as we carry out the international logistics and start-up of the project, we have to manage and schedule the required timetables, in order not to incur delays and cost overruns. So that’s an advantage that we provide to our clients.

We as Andina stand out for our deliveries on time, fastness, responsibility and security in our processes. 

What made you join the industry?

What made us join the international logistics industry was because is one of the most complex but also interesting sectors of business. It is a sector that covers almost all fields and that continues to grow thanks to its relevance in the functioning of the world.

Regarding our Renewable Energy division, we know that everyone uses energy, but Andina wanted to help in the construction of more plants that help the growth of green energy. 

What was the impact that COVID-19 brought to your business?

The incorporation of new security politics, not only in health matters, but also technological ones.
