Mexican specialized transport provider Tradelossa has handled a 337-tonne turbine and a 377-tonne generator for the Tamazunchale combined-cycle power plant.

Located in the town of Tamazunchale in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, Tradelossa said the project will construct the largest combined-cycle power plant in Latin America in terms of capacity.

The turbine and generator were shipped to Mexican ports from Japan, and were moved to the project site.

The turbine measured 12.28 m x 4.1 m x 5 m, while the generator measured 9.8 m x 4.86 m x 5.9 m.

Once on-site, Tradelossa deployed a 550-tonne capacity gantry and two 300-tonne capacity strand jacks to handle the components – suspending both pieces in the air at a height of 7 m. Using a jack and slide system, the turbine was moved 54 m along the facility, while the generator was moved 36 m.

Tradelossa said: “The completion of this task brought enormous benefits to the energy sector in the northern region of the country. It is also important to mention that both the generator and turbine were the heaviest and largest pieces of equipment ever installed in Latin America.”
