HLPFI Awards / CATEGORY: Forwarder Network of the Year

Hello felows,

I would like to inform that we have submitted our application for the HLPFI Awards / CATEGORY: Forwarder Network of the Year . We know it won’t be easy, but we are working hard to make our group better and better every day. We thank you for the collaboration from David Allely, Allelys Group and Iris Müllejans, for sending the Excom a successful case study for a project two THLG members did together. A good example of how we want and we can develop more and more together.

Bellow our application:

• The introduction of value-added services for members:

The Heavy Lift Group is the oldest (more than 30 years) international group of specialized heavy transport companies which combine their forces to offer the best expertise and service to our customers and projects. We have not only project freight forwarders, but also diversified members, like equipment owners, port operators, heavy haul, rigging and installation, aircraft charter, vessel charter, surveyors and engineering services. This brings to our members a solid support worldwide in all areas according to each project requirements. We focus on meeting in all continents periodically in order to give to our members equally opportunity to join our interesting and successful conferences. Benefits for the member:

–          No extra fee to attend the conferences;

–          Free masterclasses;

–          Opportunity to our members to bring and present their current case studies;

–          Benchmarking best practices in each member country;

–          Roundtable discussions with different subjects on benefit of the group;

–         Subsidize / share the costs for our booth at Breakbulk Europe, where members exhibit and promote their        company independently within THLG joint booth;

–           Active social media management that promotes members news daily;

–           Interactive website, which offers the opportunity for direct posts to the social media as well as regular press releases to various magazines of the Heavy lift industry;

• A conscientious and thorough approach to vetting new members:

The Heavy Lift Group is a non-profitable organization. That make us very different from all other networks. We are not in the hurry to grow fast, but to grow qualitative.

We have a decision tree that we follow strictly to accept new members. That includes also a financial analysis of the applicant as well as proof of extensive experience in project cargo handling.

Our idea is to have trustful and long-term members to work strategically on global projects; we focus on one member per segment per country. If applicant is approved through that process, we will invite the company to join our next conference, where they will make us a presentation. THLG members will vote and majority vote either approves or declines the candidate.

That’s why we are considered as a very prestigious group. We are global group of local professionals and we have power in unity.

• Successful annual meetings

Although the Group dates back in 1980s and we have organized 67 events through the years, we can present you with the latest:

Muscat  Oct2017

Toronto Oct 2016

Istanbul Oct 2015

Cyprus  Oct 2014

Lisbon   Oct 2012

During our conferences, apart of one to one meetings, we often have the chance to organize first class educational masterclasses on various issues of the heavy lift industry.

Moreover, we organize field trips to various places of interest, such as ports, terminals etc.

A thorough overview on past conferences, together with other useful information can be found in our website www.theheavyliftgroup.com .

• Examples of members benefitting from the network through improved business or joint projects

2 x The Heavy Lift Group Members: Riedl Group, Germany x Allelys Group, UK.

Siemens were awarded the contract for the supply and construction of two “HVDC Converter Stations” in Belgium and Great Britain. Riedl Group were awarded the total logistic scope of this project by Siemens.

The scope of the project was the delivery of the on-shore and off-shore substation components approximately:

Belgium Site (Herdersbrug Substation): approx. 3.900 mt, approx. 13.300 FRT incl. Heavylift components

Great Britain Site (Richborough Substation): approx. 4.400 mt, approx. 16.400 FRT incl. Heavylift components

All in gauge and ODC components were transported by standard trucks/trailers and the H/L components :

Cargo per substation:

3 main transfomers, each           1000x424x460 cm – 295,0 to

1 spare transfomers,                  1000x424x460 cm – 295,0 to

Additionals per substation:

6x        converter, each               350x350x450 cm – 7,8 to

1x        converter, each               350x350x450 cm – 7,8 to

3x        radiator bank, each         890x390x435 cm – 33,5 to

Transformers UK:

3 main transfomers, each           1000x424x460 cm – 295,0 to

1 spare transfomers,                  1000x424x460 cm – 295,0 to

Transload by crane from barge to coaster in NSP, then shipped to the port of Ramsgate, UK. Here the H/L components were transload by floating crane onto modular trailers, finally the inland transport to site was by road via the harbour approach tunnel and a short section of residential road to site to avoid a second tunnel. On arrival at site the components were unloaded onto Riedl skidding equipment for foundation setting.

Special about the project:

The Port of Ramsgate is predominantly a roro port which was not in frequent use, as such there were no quays suitable to rig a heavy lift crane to discharge the transformers direct from a coaster. Further the Roro Jetty’s were also not of sufficient capacity to roll these transformers from a roro. The Riedl-Group came up with the unique concept to use a floating crane and a lot of money for static calculations and stengthening of the quay could be saved.

The on-carriage was with our THLG partner Allelys. A special security frame positioned in front of the cargo on Allelys trailer warned of any collision with the tunnel before any damage occurred while driving through a very narrow tunnel! In the event neither the frame or the cargo made any contact.

For the foundation setting a special turning device was used by Reidl-Group’s own rigging team.

Due to the intensive and great communication and efforts of all involved all permits were released in time and the components were delivered in time and in good order.
