THLG 69th Conference in Rio de Janeiro – it’s a wrap

Dear THLG members,

Just days before we waive goodbye to 2023, let’s spare a moment to revive the sweet memories of our last gathering.

Our 69th End Year Conference in Rio de Janeiro was a resounding success! Dubbed the “Samba Conference,” it offered a delightful blend of enjoyment, sightseeing, networking, education, and a remarkable culinary experience. All of this unfolded at the Hilton Copacabana Hotel, strategically located in the heart of the iconic Copacabana Beach!

Commencing with our Informal Dinner, attendees relished cocktails and fine dining in an exclusive setting with an excellent view. Despite the challenges of rain and a somewhat bumpy journey, the DJ and the bohemian ambiance of the venue made the experience truly worthwhile.

The next day marked the official Conference Day, where the entire agenda was meticulously discussed. Our ExCom shared the accomplishments of the past year and unveiled future plans and initiatives. Notably, we welcomed four new members—Conical GmbH, Quantum Forwarding, Eastship, and AAW Project Logistics—strengthening our collaborative network. Iris Muellejans provided an insightful presentation on SynconStations, while Rosy Malave delivered firsthand insights into the current state of the Panama Canal.  The “Minutes” of the Conference can be found at the following link and do remember to login in order to access them:

After an engaging day, we eagerly prepared for our Gala Dinner at the Emiliano, one of Copacabana’s finest hotels. Amidst heartfelt speeches and exchanged gifts, a local Brazilian guitar duo set the tone with soft samba notes, creating a perfect atmosphere for mingling, and enjoying each other’s company.

The following couple of days were a tourist’s dream, featuring city tours and visits to renowned landmarks. Our itinerary included a close-up view of Christ the Redeemer, an exquisite Brazilian BBQ lunch, and we then continued by taking the teleferics up to the Sugar Loafs for panoramic views of Rio de Janeiro. Shopping for local Havaianas added a delightful touch.

The second day of our Social Program focused on culture, with a visit to the Museum of Tomorrow (Museo do Amanha), a vivid reminder of our collective responsibility toward the planet. A delicious local lunch at a plant-filled restaurant preceded a visit to a Samba school, offering insights into carnival preparations. We were even provided with authentic costumes, leading to memorable group pictures and joyous moments. To top the experience, a professional Samba dancer gave us a small performance which ended in everyone dancing to the rhythm of Samba!

Describing this trip as memorable would be an understatement. Each participant is left with a profound sense of joy, reflecting our guide Dany’s words: visiting Brasil changes you, leaving you with a piece of its beauty. Our unique bonding experience unfolded in a beautiful country, among even more beautiful people.

It goes without saying that the overall support from our host member Fox Brazil was second to none raising the standards immensely for any future host member to meet.

So, until our paths cross again, may the rhythm of Brazil echo in our hearts, reminding us of the extraordinary moments we created together in this charming corner of the world.

On behalf of the entire ExCom and our supporting team, we wish you relaxed and happy holidays while we all hope that peace will soon be restored in every corner of the world.

Yours Faithfully,

Elisabeth Cosmatos

THLG President & Marketing Manager
