Dear THLG family,
Finally, 2020 is over. What a challenging year it’s been! When I stood here twelve months ago, I would never have thought that we would need to adapt so fast to all the changes in our routines.
This pandemic has revealed our most precious asset: life. A study published in May 2020 found that the daily global carbon emissions during the lockdown measures in early April fell by 17% and could lead to an annual carbon emissions decline of up to 7%, which would be the biggest drop since World War II according to the researchers.
We have learned a lot this year. And I truly believe we can contribute more toward building a better world, moving our passion for projects, oversized and superheavy logistics, but trying as much as possible to follow and promote “The 17 Goals for Sustainable Development”: https://www.globalgoals.org/
Looking back to our achievements as group this year:
- Social responsibility: we started supporting on monthly basis Médecins Sans Frontières;
- Breakbulk Europe: we have managed to cancel our participation (booth, hotel, restaurants) without penalties, and we have kept the same location for 2021;
- Online Conferences: we still could organize our 2 x conferences this year via Zoom;
- Webinar series: we started a new session for trainings and masterclasses
- JULY: What can be done to Reduce Risks and Costs simultaneously? Rhenus, USA
- SEPTEMBER: Chartering Negotiation Practices and their Applicability to RFQ for Project Cargoes. FOX Brasil, BR
- DECEMBER: Super-Heavy Transport Aircraft by ANTONOV Airlines
- Membership fee reduction: not only because we could save money, but to also support our members during this tough year;
- Social media: just on LinkedIn we have achieved more than 5.000 followers, 600.000 views (average 2.000 per post) and a total of 300 posts;
- HLPFI Award: as the best Project Freight Forwarder of the Year !
I couldn’t possibly end without saying “thank you” to our ExCom (incl. our “sub” and active Colin D’Abreu) who make such a great job during this year. We really do appreciate all that you do for THLG. I also want to say “thanks” to all of you members for trusting us at ExCom and for contributing, which directly transposes to maintaining a high level, which of course is very much visible to others in our Logistic Industry.
I also take the opportunity to wish you, your colleagues, employees and family all the best for the Holiday season, and a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
In closing, I would like to say that it is my absolute pleasure to serve as THLG President, an honour which I hold close to my heart.
Thanks to every one of you. Power in Unity !!!
Best regards,
