THLG member Rhenus Projects USA was awarded two Antonov AN-124 air charter contracts, one of the world's largest commercial cargo aircrafts.

First contract was the transport of a steam turbine rotor from Accra, Ghana to Ahmedabad, India. The bladed rotor, which needed immediate air transportation to be quickly repaired, would not initially fit in an AN-124 fuselage. RPL USA helped redesign the frame to include a 4cm clearance with a special loading ramp, which made the disassembly of the cargo unnecessary. Being able to ship the rotors bladed helped the client save a lot of time which otherwise would have been lost on disassembly and reassembly.

Rhenus Logistics India provided their expertise to navigate and expedite the complex customs clearance process for temporary imports in India, organize crane handling on the tarmac and planed the OOG transport from Ahmedabad airport to the consignee’s door.

Rhenus Project's In-House Engineering team developed technical drawings and lifting calculations to ensure that operations across all modes of transport were safely executed.

Second contract was the movement of a couple of rotor casings from China to Germany, showcasing yet again benefits of Rhenus teamwork and expertise across three continents.

The casings, originally intended to be shipped face-up inside a shipping frame, would not fit in an AN-124 fuselage. After discussions with the client, casings were shipped face-down without a shipping frame to take advantage of the curvature. Wood was used to protect the sensitive face of the casing during transport, with additional protection by rubber mats that Rhenus procured locally in China.

RPL China provided exceptional support by procuring steel I-beams for support and rubber friction mats to protect cargo from chain lashings. RPL China assisted with export Customs clearance, necessary permits, inland transportation, crane handling at origin airport and local presence to supervise the operations.

RPL Switzerland provided support with necessary permits, crane operations at destination airport and delivery to consignee door. Rhenus Leipzig office provided supervisory support at the destination airport.
