this week we speak with
Benjamin Herman,
Head of Business Development ,
TANTA Transport & Logistics, Slovenia

THE "WHO-WHERE-WHAT" CHALLENGE

Logistics has been a constant thread throughout Benjamin’s life, shaping a career focused on delivering large-scale, complex projects across the Balkans and worldwide. His experience spans sectors including construction, manufacturing, energy, maritime, and government.
He has a strong passion for moving heavy, oversized, and dangerous cargo; the more complex, the better, and is guided by a simple approach: getting the job done properly, from start to finish.
Tell us about TANTA. Who owns the company?
TANTA is an asset-based project logistics company specializing in delivering heavy, oversized and dangerous cargo. Since 2024, TANTA has been part of Liburnia Group, a regional leader in chartering heavy lifters and project logistics forwarding. As part of the Group our capabilities include:
Tell us a few words about your personal experience, your expertise and the company's business in general.
Our core business revolves around supporting major industrial investments in energy, infrastructure, production, government and defense. We handle the full complexity of heavy, oversized, and dangerous cargo—from detailed route surveys and permitting to heavy haulage, port operations, chartering and final delivery. We exist to serve the world and deliver the impossible.
Where are your offices located?
TANTA is headquartered near the main entrance of the Port of Koper in Slovenia (Ankaranska cesta 5c, 6000 Koper), the country's primary gateway for international trade. Our trucks, equipment and operational teams are deployed across Europe, with additional branches supporting seamless access to key markets.

Tell us about projects that you have handled recently.
We've been extremely active, particularly on the import side. We are heavily involved in transporting BESS (Battery Energy Storage Systems) arriving in large volumes through the Port of Koper, which we then deliver across Europe. Handling this type of cargo requires more than just equipment for heavy and oversized transport. It also requires the capability and experience to manage dangerous goods safely. Since we were among the few companies from the very beginning that had both capabilities — heavy transport equipment and dangerous cargo expertise — this has given us a strong advantage and the ability to execute these projects with maximum safety and reliability for our customers.
Other notable recent projects include delivering production-line equipment for lithium battery and automotive manufacturing facilities (including support for BYD's major investments in Hungary) and transporting specialized equipment linked to preparations for EXPO 2027 in Serbia.
Which are the main industries served in Slovenia and which one seems to be your focus point?
In Slovenia and the broader region, we serve energy, manufacturing, heavy industry and infrastructure projects. Our primary focus is on energy-sector (power generation equipment and transformers), industrial production relocations and components critical to long-term infrastructure investments.
Is Project Cargo Forwarding a competitive sector in Slovenia?
Not really – it's competitive at the surface level, but few companies can actually perform at the highest standard. Plenty offer quotes, very few deliver the real execution. Notably, none of the big global project-forwarding heavyweights have bothered to open an office here. Slovenia’s has prime geographic location + deep logistics tradition = the fastest, most cost-effective gateway for landlocked Europe: Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic. Adriatic ports such as Koper, Rijeka or Trieste can certainly make it happen and these 3 ports are in the radius proximity of less than 100km.

How do you ensure that you stand out?
We combine our own heavy-lift equipment, trucks and cranes with serious project-forwarding expertise. We plan, engineer and execute in-house whenever possible no delays, no excuses, full control. We focus on preparation, safety and transparent communication. Our strength is our ability to get things done and take full accountability.
What parts of Heavy Lift Project Management seem to be challenging in Slovenia? Any advice to be shared as a precaution or as an important highlight to a potential customer?
The main challenges are infrastructure limitations, bridge load or height restrictions, tunnels, permit timelines and coordination across multiple authorities when moving oversized cargo. Slovenia is strategically located but requires detailed pre-planning. Our advice to customers is simple: involve the logistics partner early. Early route surveys, technical checks and authority coordination prevent delays and unexpected

What made you personally join the industry?
Every job is a high-stakes engineering war game: massive weight, tight margins, little to no room for mess-ups. Seeing all parts come together from planning to execution and final delivery, that’s the hit. Pure adrenaline. This industry demands precision, teamwork and ability to get things done, that is what makes it rewarding.
What do you like the most about your business?
Project logistics is real. It is physical, complex and impactful. You see the result of your work in power plants running, factories operating and infrastructure being built. That responsibility and scale attract me. Every project is different and requires critical thinking and action, not routine work...
