Interview of the week – Teamlifting – Saudi Arabia

this week we speak with Jamal Abubaker,
General Manager, Teamlifting, Saudi Arabia

THE "WHO-WHERE-WHAT" CHALLENGE

Jamal has a Diploma and Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Mechanical Engineering.

He has more than 30 years professional experience in the fileds of Heavy Fabrication, Mechanical Maintenance and specializes in Heavy Lifting, Heavy Transport and Jacking & Sliding Projects.

Jamal has been a member of Teamlifting since 2008 and is the General Manager.

Tell us about Teamlifting. Who owns the company?

Started in 2008, Teamlifting is a medium scale heavy transport and heavy lift operator in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Located in the eastern province, we operate through out Saudi Arabia.

Mr. Salem Al Wabran is the owner of the company. His dynamic leadership is moving the company forwards with progressive vision and perspective.

Where are your offices located?

We are located in Al Khobar (Eastern city of Saudi Arabia) with storage yards in Rastanurah and in Dammam.

What is Teamlifting’s specialty and service range?

We are specialized in heavy lifting, heavy transportation. Our premium area of specialization is Equipment Erection by Jacking & Skidding.

Tell us about projects that you have handled recently.

There are many. The first thing that comes to mind is the recent transportation of a 140 tons Surge Vessel of 21m length and 4.6m height from Dammam to Shuqaiq, a distance around 1800 km.

Another job done was the transportation of a power transformer main body of size 8 x 3.5 x 4.4 m and weight 137 tons from Dammam port to Jubail industrial area. The transformer was under storage for more than a month in our storage yard, since its foundation was not ready.

Are there any tricky points one should consider when planning a project cargo movement in the Saudi Arabia?

There is NOTHING called TRICKY in project planning. Planning means 100% PLANNING. To me, Fail to Plan is Plan to Fail.

Planning allows our sense to travel ahead. To travel forward to experience all kinds of hardships that one can encounter during the actual execution.

We plan every movement / activity in advance, analyze and take preventive measures to ensure a smooth transport operation.

What is your advantage against competition? Why do you stand out?

System, reliable equipment and dedicated manpower. All transportation jobs are carried out strictly based on government rules and permits. All our equipment is of high quality European brands. All trailers are with hydraulic suspension and steerable hydraulically. We keep them well maintained to ensure 24x7 availability.

We keep the schedules of the customer by providing our services in time.

What made you join the industry?

The first job in my career was in a heavy electrical manufacturing company making power transformers in the range of 400 KV. The logistics of huge power transformer main bodies to various locations in India was a challenging task and the job was assigned to me.

Later I got the opportunity to work in Alatas Mammoet, Saudi Arabia, that led to become a dedicated heavy-lift personnel.

After that, I participated in a key role to establish a new heavy lifting company in Saudi Arabia.

Looking back, 42 years of career experience is something worth for our company.

What was the impact that COVID-19 brought to your business?

Rather than impact, COVID-19 brought us opportunities. A few weeks after the beginning of the pandemic, the market was calm and cool. From the 2nd quarter of 2020, the market situation started improving and last quarter was quite busy for us.
