198 Tons generator house on the move

Van der Vlist, member of the Heavy Lift Group, was recently asked to move a 198T generator house from the Hemcentrale power station in Amsterdam to the port of Amsterdam. A period of extensive preparations consisting of route surveys and bridge calculations preceded the receipt of the required permit. One working day before the transport was due to be executed, it was advised that the height of the generator house had been increased by 95 centimeters This meant the height of the cargo was 3.80 meters instead of 2.85 meters. After being informed of this change, a new route survey was completed that same evening to ensure that the movement, with the increased driving height of 4.80 metres could be carried out without any difficulty. Height restrictions on the route meant that the place of discharge had to be changed at very short notice in order to carry out this heavy transport within the original planned time frame. None of this could have been achieved without the constructive co-operation of all parties involved. The road authorities of Amsterdam and the RDW (government road transport agency) made it possible to receive a new permit at very short notice. Additionally, the team work of our own modular transport experts, especially the technicians who build the modular trailer and the driver, ensured the movement was completed safely.
