The Power to Care for Renewable Energy

Last autumn Van der Vlist, member of The Heavy Lift Group, began our involvement with the Garth Hill Community Onshore Wind Farm project. This renewable energy project consisting of 5 wind turbines is situated on the Isle of Yell, which is the largest of Shetland’s North Isles. All component parts were loaded in Germany and transported by truck, via road and regular ferry’s to Lerwick, the largest settlement of the Shetland Islands. From the port of Lerwick the trip continued and via the ferry that leaves from Toft, the final destination of Yell was reached. Every working day Van der Vlist trucks drove to Yell and returned to Lerwick with police and private escorts when the parts, measuring 4.95 metres wide, were transported. In total 35 transports were successfully completed in this magnificent location with the help of Van der Vlist’s special blade trailers and our dedicated team. The Isle of Yell has now given the go-ahead for renewable energy expansion on the Shetland Islands!
