Rosy’s shipping career began just after her 18th birthday from Venezuela, her home country and has led her to Panama where she presently resides.

Her overall experience in the container sector, ship brokerage, logistics, and her longtime friendship with Julio Gonzalez was the base to form Nakama WorldWide Solutions in 2021.

Tell us about Nakama Worldwide Solutions. Who owns the company?

Nakama WWS started operations in 2021 due to the professional growing interest of Julio González and myself, Rosangela Díaz-Malavé but everybody knows me as Rosy Malave.

Tell us about projects that you have handled recently.

Nakama has been part of projects like: Iveco´s fleet, Gaspro´s mobilization of motors and parts from China to El Salvador and more recently, mobilization of CAT´s 789C and 16M from Chile to Panama.

Which are the main industries served in Panama and which one seems to be your focus point?

Panama is mostly, an importer country that serves as a distribution hub for some of the Central American countries, as an import/export point. Products exported from Panama are mostly agricultural and we provide services to in transit cargoes, for which we can offer our bonded warehouse located on the Atlantic.

Panama´s geographical location stands out in the region as it is situated in the middle of the Americas, so we can provide all logistics services as a one stop shop: warehousing, freight forwarding (air, ocean, land, national and international), trucking, customs brokerage and cargo insurance.

Is Project Cargo Forwarding a competitive sector in Panama? How do you ensure that you stand out?

Project cargo in Panama is mostly dependent on government projects. Nakama stands out as one of the few companies with proved experience, know how, logistics chain development, fulfilling all of the safety and most recent guidelines in cargo project handling, as our projects are with private customers which are government´s contractors.

What parts of Heavylift project management seem to be challenging in Panama? Any advice to be shared as a precaution or as an important highlight to a potential customer?

As a small country, which recently started to develop new infrastructure and business possibilities to generate income, Panama´s ports are at an early stage when handling heavylift cargoes. Additional to this, land transportation must be well calculated, as the allowed height varies a lot along the roads, for which a proper route survey must be done in advance.

This is why we see the opportunity to provide a proper management of heavylift cargoes, based on our expertise gained locally and abroad to import or export these types of cargoes.

What made you personally join the industry?

It is a funny story. While I was enrolling for a new semester at the university, I saw an ad saying: “If you know English, call this number”, so I thought “I wish it´s not for selling Herbalife” and called. I got an appointment to interview and at the office there was a long line. Once inside a beautiful office, with many wooden details and a wall map, there was an old man speaking in Italian, whom by signs, told me to enter. Once he sees my CV, he told me “ma questo non e possibile!” and I didn´t know what to say, then he asks me “Were you born on November the 4th?”. As I said yes, he took my CV and replied: “If you were born on November 4th you are as good as me, as I was born the very same day, you are hired!”.

That is how I got into this industry, because of the opportunity from Captain Giuseppe Catanzaro, in Italia Lines and now I can say that was a good decision from him.

What do you personally like the most about your business?

I like to be able to provide solutions for small or big shipments, which will make me give the best of my experience, to achieve the best service possible to our clients by improving and doing it better on each opportunity. Additionally, I have the chance to know people and have friends all over the world.
